LC Paper to invest €4.3M to boost recycled paper circularity

LC Paper, headquartered in Besalú, has announced a €4.3 million investment aimed at enhancing the circularity of its production processes through the installation of state-of-the-art industrial machinery. The project, co-designed with German and Indian engineering, will allow for the precise separation of paper fibers from impurities such as plastics and metals, ensuring the recycled material meets the standards for hygiene and softness required for household and professional markets.

This investment follows the company's recent expansion, including the 2023 opening of a new converting plant in Fornells de la Selva. These technological and operational improvements have enabled the company to return to profitability, reporting an EBITDA of €6 million in 2023 after overcoming two years of losses caused by high energy costs resulting from the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Established in 1881, LC Paper is a family-owned business employing 140 professionals across three production sites. With over €50 million in annual revenue and exports to 28 countries across four continents, it holds the distinction of being the first papermaker globally to achieve the prestigious B Corp certification for corporate social responsibility.
